Creating a Synchronous Employee Experience with SONOS

For thousands of years, villages in Africa have commemorated milestone achievements by coming together for a unique celebration. Since the 2002 inception of Sonos, an innovative consumer electronics company, they've expanded theirBoomwhacker global reach to more than 60 countries and have established concrete relationships with thousands of retailers. We were thrilled to be part of their achievement celebration as the leadership and HR team of Sonos said goodbye to a great year and welcomed 2015.

The theme of our drum call with Sonos was "Creating Synchronicity." Through drumming, we were able to ignite and unify everyone; we wanted everyone to experience the unity of their internal voices. The Drum Cafe West crew also facilitated a breakout session with an instrument called the "Boomwhacker," which makes a musical tone when struck against almost any surface. The Boomwhacker was used symbolically, as it's a tool that can help develop sensor-motor skills, social skills and creativity. Our DCW event facilitator, Nina, encouraged employees to call out ideals important to Sonos; as ideas were shared we progressively added each value that was shouted out to a rhythmic musical pattern. The end result of our breakout session was a powerful, energetic song that resonated some of Sonos core values:

  1. Experience comes first. It's like the saying, "Do it right, or don't do it." Sometimes "right" is hard to find, but the crew at Sonos is willing to put in the time to find it.
  1. Be relentlessly progressive. Every little bit counts! Everything we do in our lives is connected to something else, and "life" often happens at those intersections; Sonos wants to be conscience of the next great opportunity, while still allowing themselves to work in the present.
  1. Remember the golden rule. The Sonos team believes in treating other people as they would want to be treated themselves. Sound familiar? This is closely linked to Drum Cafe West's core ideal of "Ubuntu," which syncs with the concept of "selfless humanity towards others."

How are your team's core values shared within your organization? We want to hear from you!
