Dr. Sandy Gluckman as our new VP of Spirited Leadership will be leading this exciting new initiative, taking the incredible collaborative spirit we create in the conference room into the boardroom and onto the bottom line.
The Story behind the Drum Cafe and Dr Sandy Gluckman
Sandy was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she founded the Gluckman Group Inc. in 1975 with the purpose of assisting leaders to envision and execute strategic changes that would drive profitable growth.
When Nelson Mandela became President in 1994, organizations and their leaders were faced with huge change. Many of the major organizations in South Africa were able to successfully reinvent themselves when apartheid was abandoned and global sanctions were removed, using Dr. Gluckman’s innovative methods for corporate change. One of the most powerful tools of change and growth that Sandy used was the African drum. Through drumming, leaders of organizations were able to re-engage thousands of alienated and hurting employees and build a culture of mutual trust, respect and collaboration.
Sandy studied these successful leaders and found a clear pattern of behavior and communication skills which she calls "Spirited Leadership". Spirited leaders know that the key to exceptional performance is the ability to ignite the spirit of the employees and apply this energy and focus to the achievement of the corporate goals and objectives. This is what Sandy calls Spirited Economics™. She works with corporate leaders around the globe showing them how to significantly increase profits by using the spirit of their employees as a strategic, competitive asset.
Dr Gluckman emigrated to the USA in 1998 and opened an office in Dallas. The partnership between The Drum Café and Sandy Gluckman is a powerful and unique combination. We all love the magic of the African drum and know the power of the drum to liberate the authentic, and courageous spirit of people.
Sandy’s groundbreaking leadership book ‘Who’s in the Driver’s Seat: Using Spirit to Lead Successfully’ revolves around how Spirited Leaders achieve greater economic value from developing a spirited workforce. The Drum Cafe’s remarkable work revolves around reconnecting people with their powerful spirit.
