Overcoming Key Leadership Challenges:

  • Communicating and Aligning Teams to Corporate Strategy
  • Productivity & Performance of Employees
  • Developing Leadership Capabilities at all Levels
  • Increase Shareholder and Customer Value
  • Create a High Performance Culture
  • Managing Change and Aligning Teams in Post-Merger Environment

There are lots more leadership challenges in today's corporations, but at the heart of this is one predominant difference between companies that are growing in leaps & bounds and those who are not:

Jim Collins' best-selling book Good to Great, is more than a great read, many of North America's fastest growing companies credit the majority of their success on following this guide. One of the most astounding discoveries that Collins and his team of 50 made, when studying companies that have had extreme and consistent growth for over 2 decades, was that the CEOs of these companies were very different than the celebrities we sometimes read about...

There is one thing Jim Collins' "Level 5 Leaders" don't worry about - their leadership abilities! Not because they are cocky or arrogant, but because they are humbled by the goal that their entire team has rallied behind!!

While we can't solve every leadership challenge, Drum Cafe might be able to help you tackle the one that really matters - crushing politics, uniting, uplifting and inspiring your team!

An inside look at  the Drum Cafe Leadership philosophy  and approach

There are several aspects of  a Drum Cafe program that provide leaders with an opportunity for valuable, practical take-aways.  Because the cornerstone of any Drum Café program is music and rhythm, much of our time working with the group is non-verbal.

What we are doing is exploring a multi-sensory, right-brained approach to engaging a group of disparate people through an expression that can be translated universally.  Because the language of rhythm appeals to our most basic creative levels, it elicits a broader response that engages more people more quickly and more emotionally. As we lead our programs, we effectively model what we would want leaders to imitate.  Imitation is one of the earliest forms of learning and effective leaders know that it is their actions that motivate people to follow them;  what they do vs. what they say.

In a Drum Cafe program, it is 80% action-based.

From the mail room to the CEO, all are called through a diverse repertoire of faculties – movement, expression, rhythm – to follow our lead.  As a leader witnesses the response from his constituencies, he or she sees that they are either ‘getting it’ or not. In this same facilitation capacity, our leaders either reinforce or re-direct the responses from the group.  In other words, what do we do when the group is supporting through their actions my specific and intended goal, and how do I manage the variance when not?  All of this sensory input has to be assessed and acted upon, by the way, in the moment, en masse, and literally without skipping a beat – just like the organizations leaders are asked to orchestrate back in the office.

Finally, despite the diverse population we lead in a Drum Cafe program – be they different functional areas of the business, geographic areas of the business, hierarchical levels of difference, even personal differences like age, gender, or cultural background – how are we able to reach a like-mindedness that results in a unified, synergistic result?  Or, more importantly, what do we do when we don’t get 100% compliance from our team?  What reaction do we have to that?  And what mechanisms, thought processes, and mindset do we use to respond?

For the ultimate leadership challenge, some clients actually take their hand ‘at the wheel’ to more closely resonate with the leadership experience provided by a Drum Cafe program.  One or more or many clients will come in from the periphery and experience 360-degree leadership from the middle of the musical circle….a place of discomfort for some but a place where quantum leaps can be made in self awareness and self inquiry surrounding their leadership skills. In increasingly cross-cultural, global organizations, rising leaders welcome this unique opportunity to explore in a ‘safe’ environment, and allows them to practice what it really means to serve the teams they are asked to lead.
