WHAT IS IT?     

The Drum Cafe is an interactive drumming events facilitator and entertainment provider, with an authentic African heritage. The Drum Cafe uses group drumming and dance – one of the most ancient forms of music making, communication and community building - to break down barriers between people and silos within organizations. We facilitate both on- and offsite interactive drumming experiences at corporate and individual events.  The Drum Café runs a variety of  different programs (13?) and can tailor-make almost any program to suit corporate requirements. In addition, we can run any part of the event in its entirety. We involve every audience member with ‘an African drum for everyone’.  The group is guided by a team of master musicians & facilitators into becoming a percussive orchestra. The group will experience playing to the same beat, a metaphor for the “vision” or the “goal”, listening, the basis for communication, resulting in making music together as a group.   

From a company/corporate perspective, it is relatively simple to equate the “unification through diversity” concept, which is at the core of the Drum Café’s ethos, to the concept of everyone in the organization working together as a unified team. In addition, and equally as important, is the ability to equate the drumming, and the participants, to the mission, vision and ambition statements of the organization. In many ways this is a tool to help employees grasp the meanings of these often-lofty corporate ideals.          

The Drum Cafe, nurtures the idea of “ubuntu” – an African concept that refers to individual identity as a function of the collective.
